“The Tales of the Middle Kingdom” art show has opened in the art museum “Liberov center”.
The exhibition presents more than 60 paintings and graphic works by Chinese artists as a part of the international art project “The bridge of friendship” (Russia – China).
The first show of the series was held in 2012, and two years earlier three renowned artists from Omsk: Geimran BAYMUKHANOV, Evgeny DOROKHOV, and Alexander SHAFEEV went on a creative trip to China at the invitation of their Chinese colleagues. As a result of the cultural exchange, a rich and diverse exhibition emerged, prepared by artists from both countries.
Unfortunately, today artists from China cannot attend the show in person, they just send in their work. However, the “Liberov center” museum emphasizes the symbolism of the fact that the show opened at a time when we are deprived of the opportunity to travel to other countries and learn their culture.
Chinese art is whimsical and fantastic: rice paper, silk, long scrolls ornated with characters, some are intended to decorate the walls, others unroll endlessly like a movie plot. Landscape paintings convey a sense of closeness to nature and the elements of fire, earth, and water.
Today the exhibition shows the work of modern Chinese artists, who further develop classical painting and calligraphy tradition of four thousand years. Featuring: Li Deshun, Hang Guozeng, Xu Fengchu, Fu Guoliang, Gui Xialang, Tang Cequn. The artists work in the style of guohua, using mineral and vegetable watercolors and ink. The show includes works in the style of Gongbi and Xieyi, that must combine the opposite elements: dark and light, small and large, dry and wet, short and long. Xieyi is the art of poets and philosophers. The art of intellectuals.
To better introduce Chinese art to the audience and maybe even compare Eastern and Western art, the exhibition program will include guided tours, lectures, and museum classes for different age groups as well as calligraphy, watercolor, and ink workshops.
