Born in Beijing in September, 1946. His family has roots in Jiangsu, Yixing. The son of famous Chinese artist Xu Beihong. Director, Professor and PHD Advisor of Xu Beihong Art Research Institute of Renmin University of China, Member of Teaching Guidance Committee for Arts Major in Higher Educational Institutions of the Ministry of Education, State Council Special Allowance Expert.
In 1981 went to Europe to study Fine Arts, received Doctor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Paris, first Chinese student in France to receive doctoral degree in Art History. Former Professor and Member of Academic Committee of Central Academy of Fine Arts.
