On August 22, during their trip to the city of Shangzhi, Heilongjiang province, representatives of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy visited one of the most unusual and remarkable museums in China — the Chinese Calligraphy on Stone Museum. Not only is it extremely famed, it is also listed as one of the specially protected cultural properties of the People’s Republic of China.
The delegation was received with courtesy and friendliness and was taken on a tour of the museum by Director He Shuling himself.
During the tour, the guests marveled the magnificent exhibits, including the impressive granite steles which had quotes by great people of the past and present elaborately engraved on them. There was also a giant seal placed right at the entrance with four dragons on each side. Measuring 3.15 m in height and 2.55 m in width and length, it is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The museum has a territory of over 40,000 sq m. It is one of the biggest cultural properties not only in China but in the whole world! Culture holds a special place in the museum and was discussed by the parties with a deep interest and appreciation.
The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and the Chinese Calligraphy on Stone Museum agreed to cooperate and maintain contact with each other. The museum also agreed to take part in the upcoming exhibition: The Great Calligraphy of China – One Belt, One Road. The expo is scheduled for September 2019 and will take place in Moscow.
