Li Hao’s personal Great Interest calligraphy exhibition opens on October 10

Li Hao’s personal Great Interest calligraphy exhibition, who is a member of the Xiling Seal Engravers Society, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association and the Vice-Chairman of the Shanghai Xuhui District Calligraphers Association, will open on October 10, 2020 in Shanghai at the Yuwatai Art Gallery at 9 Ziyun Xilu Street.

Calligrapher and seal engraving master Li Hao is a representative of a new generation of sealmakers in Shanghai. In 2007, he was included in the top ten seal engravers selected by the Xiling Seal Engravers Society among 6,000 people from all over the world, after which he joined the Xiling Seal Engravers Society. This time he gave up on engraving stamps, which is his strong suit, and decided to hold a calligraphy exhibition, which will draw attention and make you think about his recent calligraphic works.

Wang Ke, doctor of calligraphy and director of the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, wrote that Li Hao’s calligraphy is remarkable for its superb simplicity, from the shape of the pen and ink to the content he chooses. However, despite this simplicity outside, in the depths, in fact, there is a real gracefulness, a certain disregard for worldly matters; this is a kind of wisdom that penetrates deep down into the heart. Thus, there is somewhat a clarification in Hao’s hieroglyphs: you will not see either the complexity that is present in today’s competitive exhibitions, or those magnificent skills of modern calligraphers, deliberately imitating ancient authors. From a spiritual point of view, Hao’s hieroglyphs are a heritage of the Shanghai style of the Republic of China. These are just the surviving representatives of the old moods, now they are quite lonely and calm – just like Hao, when he “puts his eyebrows down like a bodhisattva.”

Li Hao’s brief profile:

I was born in 1969, nicknamed Le Tian, I am also called Ming Lu, Sheng An, the literary double is Chuncao Bichitan. I am now a member of the Xiling Seal Engraving Society, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association and the Vice-Chairman of the Shanghai Association. There are many exhibitions in which I took part, but there are not so many achievements so far. There is an opportunity to be selected, but there is practically no chance to win. Every day I hone my skills and spend paper, but I don’t know where the sky is…
